Lawrence Ardern - Instructor & Judge
Lawrence began his competitive career in the mid 1950s in England. He was trained by Major Eric Hancox in Manchester and he had a very successful competitive career with his wife Betty winning many championships, reaching a high as last 48 at Blackpool.
After emigrating to Canada he started competing again as a senior in 1984, at which time they were the only couple entering from Alberta, and was the first ever representatives for Alberta at the National Championships.
They were founding members of the Alberta Amateur Association. Since turning professional Lawrence has been very successful as a coach of Competitive Dancers, training many of the Alberta champions. He holds the fellowship qualification of the Professional Association as an Examiner and has judged many National Championships. He trains all levels including training and preparing candidates for professional examinations. He is a registered IDSF Adjudicator.
Lawrence & Betty are very proud to have been a catalyst for the International Style competitive scene in Alberta. They were the originators of the very popular "Wild Rose Ball" in 1997 which ran for ten years, handing over the reins in 2007 to Steve Van, however they remain very much involved in the event. |
